Episode 68: Some Of My Favorite Toys.....
This is a mix I did of classic ballroom house, Baltimore Club and remixes by one of the BEST DJ's I KNOW. He is so innovative and is the RULING BALLROOM DJ AND PRODUCER OF ALL TIME. Yeah, I said it. He is also my friend. I admire and respect his ability to produce innovative "elite beatz" and stay current and vibrant with the albums he does. I celebrate him on this live birthday mix. It was Ryder's birthday then but like Donnie Hathaway sang, I'm singing this song to you. Happy Birthday Vjuan Allure, I love you, my sushi sista!
Episode 63: POOLSIDE & SUNKISSED.
Shout out to Rodney, Beejay, Cameron, and All the DJ's that inspired me from one of the oldest African-American gay dance clubs in DC still open. THe Mill will always be home to me!
Episode 61 - Summer Madness.
This is from 2005 and mixed live from my Mixed Nuts Thursday night at a club called The Wet/Edge. I loved spinning at The Wet. It was the best strip club in DC until it was closed and sold to the city for condos...
Episode 60 - SHOWIN' OFF OLD SCHOOL HOUSE MIX - 21th Century Version...
I am SO grateful for these 60 podcasts and each AND EVERY follower, listener and download-er. This mix is going all the back to Episode 1 and re-stating my love for OLD SCHOOL HOUSE!
Episode 59 - VEGAS, BABY!
This episode is dedicated to Kerry "DJ K-NYCE" Gilliard. Thank you for the inspiration 20 years ago. Your DJing and cassette tape mixes are one of the MAIN influences in my DJ career. I would not have had the career I have without your influence way back at Bowie State. I honor you. I thank you for being a mentor, someone to look up to, and most of all, my homie. Now SHUT UP AND DANCE!!!
Episode 54 - MASTERCLASS.
I'm happy to release this mix, the Lady Miss Kier is my newest Facebook friend! Enjoy this vocal journey and stay tuned for some BRAND NEW mixes very soon...
Episode 51: A CAJUAL MIX.
I am so happy to be ringing in the new year with a new podcast. My fiftieth podcast episode at that. I feel optimistic that I will start a great new chapter of my life and career here in Atlanta. This mix celebrates that for me. Enjoy....
Episode 49: For Teena Marie...An R&B Icon.
Teena Marie, the R&B singer known as the "Ivory Queen of Soul" for her hits "Lovergirl" and "Square Biz," died in her California home over the weekend. She was 54.
With her powerful, soulful voice and a love of hip-hop, Marie confounded race-based expectations in the predominantly black worlds of R&B and hip-hop in the early '80s and became an inspiration to singers of all races. Mary J. Blige tweeted Sunday that Marie "inspired me vocally as a child. Her songs I sang in the mirror with a hair brush." Missy Elliott tweeted: "Teena created music that is timeless! Songs sung with soul and conviction, a true LEGEND!"
Marie also made a mark in the music industry, fighting for the passage of the Brockert Initiative - Marie's real name was Mary Christine Brockert - which prohibits a record company from keeping an artist under contract while refusing to release their albums.
According to her publicist, Lynn Jeter, a month ago the singer-songwriter-producer reportedly suffered a grand mal seizure, a neurological event marked by a loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions. "Luckily, someone was there," Jeter told CNN. "The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure." However, she was believed to be feeling better and preparing for a show this week in Atlanta when her teen daughter, Alia Rose, found her unresponsive early Sunday.
Marie made her debut on the Motown label in 1979, becoming one of the very few white acts to break the race barrier of the groundbreaking black-owned record label that had been a haven for artists like Stevie Wonder, the Jackson Five, the Supremes and Marvin Gaye.
The cover of her debut album, "Wild and Peaceful," did not feature her image, with Motown apparently fearing black audiences might not buy it if they found out the songstress with the dynamic, gospel-inflected voice was white.
"[Motown founder Berry] Gordy said that it was so soulful that he wanted to give the music an opportunity to stand on its own merit. Instead of my face, they put a seascape, so by the time my second album came out people were like, Lady T is White?" she told Essence.com.
Marie was the protege of the masterful funk wizard Rick James, with whom she would have a long, turbulent, but musically magical relationship. She notched her first hit, "I'm a Sucker for Your Love," with the help of James on that album. By the time her second album was released, her face was known - and on the cover of the record.
But there was no backlash - she would only get more popular on her way to becoming one of R&B's most revered queens.
Episode 48 - DO ASK, DO TELL.
Amazing. In an historic moment, the Senate has voted 63-33 for cloture on the stand-alone bill to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". The cloture vote clears the largest conressional hurdle to repeal the 17-year-old ban on gays and lesbians openly serving in the military. At least six Republicans supported the vote.
This bill was introducted by Connecticut Independent Joe Lieberman after two unsuccessful attempts by the Senate to include DADT repeal as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. The measure is identical to the House bill that passed Wednesday by a 250-175 vote.
Voting for cloture means only 30 hours of debate remain before a final vote. Sixty votes were needed.
The Republicans voting YES included: Scott Brown (MA), Susan Collins (ME), Mark Kirk (IL), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Olympia Snowe (ME) and George Voinovich (OH). Collins co-sponsored the repeal bill.
In the Democratic caucus, all members present voted for cloture but newly-elected Sen. Joe Manchin (WV) did not vote. On December 9, Manchin was the only Democrat to support the Republican filibuster of the National Defense Authorization Act, the original vehicle for DADT repeal.
Episode 47: BACK IN MY DAY....
This mix is a homage to what New York City sounded like to me from 1993 -2003. Ten years of musical stimuli, glitterati and friends. It was a magical time. I dedicate this mix to one of my oldest and dearest friends, Luna "Legacy" Luis Ortiz. The paths we take in life, long and winding, are hopefully littered with friends like these. I always say to give those you love their flowers while they are here. I celebrate you, my friend.
Episode 41: Horny Horns!
This mix was done with ACTUAL records and Turntables. I mixed this at home in 2003 and is one of the BEST mixes I've ever done. For years, I held on to these mixes thinking they weren't good enough. After 7 years, I realize it's good enough. Do you?
On a side note, I never thought I'd ever reach Episode 40 with this podcast. Thank you for listening, recommending, friend requesting and loving what I do. I realize I can't be me without you.

Episode 22: Heat: The Untitled Mix Vol.1 Believe In Me....
Hey Race fans...
HEALTHCARE FOR ALL IS NOW AN OPTION.....in 2014. BUT, It's still historic and we have Obama to thank! Here's a mix that fell on my head from a box I thought was lost. It starts with one of my favorite vocals IN house music of ALL time, Chantay Savage - If You Believe. Some of you may remember this mix from a movie from 1993 featuring Parker Posey called Party Girl. If you haven't seen it, It is the soundtrack of, in my opinion, the best years in house music and sheds light on house artists that would never have gained recognition outside of the walls of the club.
ENJOY AND KNOW I LOVE ALL MY NEW FANS HERE AND FROM FACEBOOK!!! YOU HELP ME DO WHAT I DO WITH YOUR LOVE!
Sincerely Your Friendly Neighborhood DJ,
Erin Kelly
